Wisconsin EMS Emergency Preparedness Plan

The purpose of the WEEPP is to provide guidance to ambulance services and first responders to ensure capability of providing triage and transportation for at least 500 adult and pediatric patients per million population. Pediatric patients usually account for 20% of the total number of MCI victims.

The following is a table showing the approximate number of both adult and pediatric patients that your community should be able to manage based on the WEEPP. Is your community ready?

In 2005, all active ambulance services were given the opportunity to learn about the WEEPP and the EMS Mass Casualty Response Plan. Upon completion of the training, and documentation that at least 80% of the service membership participated, the service was eligible for a $1400 stipend, offered through HRSA (now the Wisconsin Hospital Emergency Preparedness Program).

The WEEPP program included valuable handout material, including the EMS Mass Casualty Response Plan, and the WEEPP Job Action Sheets. These documents explain the overall scene management plan, as well as the roles of the EMS branch director, triage group supervisor, treatment group supervisor, and the transport group supervisor.

The SCRTAC encourages you, your EMS service, your local hospital, and your surrounding communities to routinely practice and train using the WEEPP. If you have further questions, or would like assistance with setting-up a WEEPP training review session, please contact the SCRTAC EMS Coordinator.
