A major goal of our State Trauma System is to make sure that traumatically injured patients receive appropriate trauma care in a timely manner. The first step in trauma patient management is identifying those patients that have major traumatic injuries, as well as those that are likely to have major traumatic injuries. Triage decisions made at the scene during the initial evaluation will impact the level and intensity of resources needed to provide definitive care.
The SCRTAC encourages EMS responders and hospital providers in our region to use the Wisconsin Trauma Field Triage Protocol to rapidly identify major trauma patients, and those who are likely to have major trauma based on mechanism of injury.
